Canadian Escape

Shooting to win, passing, skating, scoring
Put the biscuit in the basket
Rank smelling locker rooms, with teammates, jerseys, gear
Coach is on the bench, yelling. Encouraging.
Sticks smack, the puck flies
Boards rattle and the ref blows his whistle
Posts ring and the crowd sighs
The net, never moving, plays its part
The game is ever so fun
That’s why I play
For the adrenaline
The friendship
Escaping stress
Even the heartbreak
Yet hockey is played,
For one thing,
The love,
Of the game
